The left-side reset

Sitting on the car's left while driving on the road's left feels wrong precisely once per trip — usually in the rental lot. The mantra: driver to the centerline. Turns are the test (a right turn crosses traffic; a left doesn't), empty roads are the trap (habit pulls you right when no one's around), and the morning after arrival is when passengers earn their keep by chanting "left, left." Island traffic culture

The pace is ~35 mph and socially enforced — nobody's in the hurry you brought with you. A short horn tap is a greeting, not a complaint; letting someone out of a side road is standard practice; and the few roundabouts work like anywhere, except you circulate clockwise and yield to traffic from the right—no, wait: from your right as you enter, circulating clockwise — honestly, just follow the car ahead the first time. The roads that matter

From the villa: the East End Road (Route 82) to Point Udall is your daily scenic commute; Centerline runs the island's spine fast; the north shore road (Route 80) is the pretty way to Cane Bay and Salt River; Mahogany Road (76) is the rainforest tunnel; and the unpaved Scenic Road network is why the directory suggests a Jeep or SUV — high clearance turns half the island's best corners from "maybe" to "let's."

Gas stations cluster mid-island and around the towns — fill up before East End weekends and rainforest days.
