Rum & spirits

The short list, verified.

Rum is St. Croix's oldest industry and the island still makes it at scale — Cruzan's family-lineage distillery on the west end, the Diageo plant that fills every bottle of Captain Morgan, and a newer distillery turning breadfruit into award-winning vodka. All three pour for visitors on weekdays; none run weekend tours, so plan a mid-week outing.

01

Cruzan Rum Distillery

Estate Diamond, west end

The historic working distillery behind the island's namesake rum, in the Nelthropp family tradition — guided tours with tastings, weekdays at 12:00, 1:30 and 3:00 by reservation.

02

Captain Morgan Visitor Center

Mid-island, off Melvin Evans Hwy

The visitor center at the Diageo distillery that produces Captain Morgan — open Monday–Friday 10–4, with booked tastings at 1 pm and a gift shop.

03

Sion Farm Distillery

Sion Farm, mid-island

Chef Todd Manley's distillery making Mutiny Island Vodka — the world's first vodka distilled from breadfruit, and a spirits-competition gold medalist. Free tours Mon–Fri 11–5 with a tasting-room bar.

04

Leatherback Brewing Company

Kingshill

Not rum, but the island's craft brewery belongs on any drinks itinerary — rainwater-brewed beers in a daily tasting room.
